What is digital marketing ? In very easy language, you have a product, want to sell, but you don’t have a store. Then you make an advertisement by whatsApp, Facebook, Amazon or Flipkart and sell your product, i.e. sell your product through digital media. This is digital marketing.
- GLOBAL REACH
You can reach anywhere where the internet is present. You never have to go to another place where you want to start a business. You don’t have a limited geographical location. If you choose your medium internet then you can reach your customers effortlessly. If we reach our customers with our websites and social media accounts like WhatsApp, instagram, facebook by making online advertisements then we can expand our business in an emerging way. Suppose you want to reach your product from India to Australia, you don’t have to open a shop or warehouse in Australia, you never have to invest a large amount . We can show our ads from India to the USA, China, Russia etc. We don’t need physical ads to show. I.e. no geographical limitation. We don’t have to be present in the USA, China, or Russia physically, But in the case of traditional marketing, You need to be present physically where you want to expand your business. Technically this is impossible. You have to make leaflets or cards and distribute them. It needs huge investments and manpower also which is not technically beneficial. But in case of digital marketing you make your presence anywhere without any physical presence.

In the case of traditional marketing, we have to make so many hooding boards for advertisements which are kept in many places. But how many people watch that in a whole day, we cannot count that, we cannot decide where we have to keep our advertisements. But today is the digital era. Each and every person has a smartphone or laptop or computer. So if we put digital advertisements on the internet, countless people watch the advertisements. We can track how many people watch our advertisements in a day. In which time the number of traffic is most, we find out that we can stop the advertisements when there is no traffic on the website. So we can save our time and investments also. I.e. We can count real time data. In the case of traditional marketing we have to put our advertisements physically everywhere. Maybe a lot of people watch the advertisements but they don’t think about the importance. In the case of digital marketing, only those people who have the necessity, watch the ads and contact us for the products. I.e. It is so effective and time saving. We have real time data. This also doesn’t require a huge man power and huge investments. Here also digital marketing beats traditional marketing.

We can focus on precise target customers. It is so beneficial compared to traditional marketing. Suppose you keep a hood beside a road, various kinds of people passing by, but most of them have no intention about your product. They will just leave it. So it is so easy to start a business with the knowledge of digital marketing. Suppose we have to pay 40 rupees everyday to show an advertisement on facebook. On the other hand we spend a huge amount of money in making physical advertisements and in labor to publish locally. I am sure in traditional marketing, it is more costly compared to digital marketing. So I think it is very easy to start a business with digital marketing compared to traditional marketing. There is more complication in digital marketing.

Today we are seeing a large change in business model. People are shifting from traditional marketing to digital marketing. They make a new generation of business models. They make digital products. They make websites to advertise their products. They change their marketing policy. Making websites and reaching people. So nowadays there is a huge opportunity in digital marketing as people are shifting from traditional marketing to digital marketing.
ENTRY RESISTANCE IS LOW
Entry resistance is very low in digital marketing. In the case of digital marketing there is no need for huge money like traditional marketing. Just we have to make a presence on a digital platform by making pages on facebook or instagram etc. we can get leads very easily. So entry level is very easy in digital marketing as there is no requirement of huge money. Just one time if we make our presence properly, then we decide when we start advertisements. So entry resistance is very low.
REAL TIME AND MEASURABLE
It is a real time and measurable system. Suppose we camp an advertisement on social media for one month. We can count how many people visit the ad during this period, how much people give response, their age etc. i.e. it is measurable properly. On the other hand, suppose we have kept a hood beside a road or spread one thousand leaflets in an area. Can we say how many people watched that or gave a response within one month ? then how can we understand about leads ! we cannot have a clear idea if our business will proceed or not. Because we don’t have real time data. In digital marketing we can say there are ten or twenty thousand people who visited our website during this month and out of them five thousand people gave proper responses to our products. Then we have got a clear idea if our business will run properly in this particular area. We can decide a particular age criteria in which we can make more ads.

In the case of traditional marketing, can we open our shop 24 hours ? Can we distribute leaflets or pamphlets at night? I think nobody will be available at night to distribute and nobody will be available to accept the leaflets or pamphlets. But people are active in social media, operate mobiles and laptops at night. Then we can show digitally our advertisements by social media. It is very easy easy and acceptable. Isn’t it ?
